Miro Sprague
Jazz Piano Instructor

Miro Sprague is a pianist, composer, bandleader, and educator known for his inspiring creativity, dynamic and passionate performance style, and artistic versatility. Working primarily in the world of jazz and improvised music, he has been an active performer and recording artist since the early 2000’s. Miro currently leads his own trio and is a member of several cooperative ensembles including Tone Forest with Jason Ennis and Marty Jaffe and a quartet with Daniel Rotem, Christian Euman and Karl McComas-Reichl. 

Miro has performed and recorded widely, working with a wide range of artists including Ingrid Jensen, Greg Osby, Walter Smith III, Jerome Jennings, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Matt Wilson, Jonathan Pinson, Jeff Parker and Josh Johnson among many others. He is an in-demand vocal accompanist and for the past decade has been the pianist of choice for renowned vocalist Karrin Allyson, touring extensively with her throughout the U.S. and overseas. In addition to his work with Karrin, Miro has also worked with vocalists Dominique Eade, Michael Mayo, Sara Gazarek, Kristin Berardi and the vocal group säje.

Miro is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA (later renamed the Herbie Hancock Institute) He studied piano with Eugene Uman, Garry Dial, John Kamitsuka and Jason Moran and also had the opportunity to learn from many master musicians including Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Hal Crook and Jerry Bergonzi. Currently based in Los Angeles, Miro is on faculty at ÂÌñÉç.
