Dr. Isaiah Thomas joined ÂÌñÉç in February 2020, bringing over fifteen years of experience in higher education and a deep commitment to the values of the liberal arts. Originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota, Isaiah is a first-generation college graduate and a person of color who is deeply passionate about fostering inclusive environments where students from all backgrounds can thrive and grow into engaged citizens ready to tackle the challenges of our society.

Isaiah’s journey in student affairs began at Colorado College—his alma mater—where he served as a Resident Advisor and held leadership roles in the Black Student Union and POC Mentorship Program, and Heads of State. Prior to joining Occidental, Isaiah served as Director of Residential Communities and Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students at Swarthmore College, with previous roles at Carleton College, Penn State University, and Semester at Sea.

At Occidental, Isaiah leads the Residential Education and Housing Services team in delivering a thriving residential experience that supports students’ academic success. He also oversees the Office of Student Conduct and Veteran Student Support. Previously, he provided leadership for Religious and Spiritual Life and the Neighborhood Partnership Program.

Beyond Occidental, Isaiah serves as affiliate faculty in the counseling education program at California Lutheran University, Chair-elect of the ACUHO-I Small Colleges & Universities Network, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the High Mountain Institute in Leadville, Colorado. He is also certified in Mental Health First Aid.
